世界著(zhù)名的七大奇跡之一 泰姬陵，是莫臥兒（Mughal）王朝第五代皇帝沙賈汗為其愛(ài)妃建造的。慕塔芝瑪(MumtazMahal)是沙賈汗的第二個(gè)皇妃，她為皇帝生育很多孩子后最終死于難產(chǎn)。她臨終前的愿望是擁有一處漂亮的陵寢。沙賈汗是個(gè)有情有意的皇帝愛(ài)妃的亡故使他悲痛萬(wàn)分一夜間白了頭發(fā)。為全力實(shí)現愛(ài)妃的遺愿動(dòng)用了數萬(wàn)名工人，用了22年時(shí)間為愛(ài)妃建造了這座就舉世無(wú)雙的陵寢。陵寢的主體建筑用純白大理石砌建而成，穆斯林風(fēng)格的拱券四周用各種珍貴的玉石鑲嵌出美麗的圖案。水景的應用是莫臥兒王朝建筑的特點(diǎn)，建筑物四周都開(kāi)鑿有四通八達的水道，水道兩旁植有果樹(shù)和柏樹(shù)，分別象征著(zhù)生命和死亡。莫臥兒建筑還有一個(gè)特點(diǎn)就是絕對的對稱(chēng)。建筑本身是對稱(chēng)的，建筑群的布局也是對稱(chēng)的。陵寢的東面有一座朝西的清真寺，是為了拜祭用的。
